sheila isabel irigoyen zozaya
She is a Mexican artist, architect, urban designer, lecturer, and researcher with extensive experience in professional practice, academia, and the public sector. She holds a Bachelor degree in Architecture and a Masters in Environmental Urban Design from the Faculty of Architecture at UADY in Mérida, Yucatán, México. In 2024, she obtained her PhD in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University. Her doctoral thesis, titled Defining and Restoring the Cultural Landscape and Place-Identity of Historic Cities: The Case of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, reflects her interest for cultural heritage and identity.
Her passion for painting began at just two years old. She received formal training in both painting and piano, beginning at age eight under the tutelage of Professor Ofelia Erosa Cámara in Mérida. Though she took a break from painting during her undergraduate studies in Architecture, she returned to it later under the mentorship of Professor Miguel Ángel Reyes at the Faculty of Architecture, where she also taught architecture and habitat design. Her artistic approach is versatile, guided by the belief that the technique should align with thetheme, mood, available time, and resources. Rather than adhering to a single style, she focuses on capturing the essence of her subjects, ensuring each piece uniquely reflects its core. Her work spans a variety of mediums, including black-and-white drawing, watercolour, oil, pastels, and mixed media. In addition to her artistic practice, she has taught a wide range of art courses, including urban sketching, still life, landscape painting, life drawing and watercolour techniques.
She offers both individual and group tuition for students of all ages. For more information or to inquire about lessons, she can be contacted at [email protected].
