Helen Pakeman
After giving up a career in retail management, Helen studied fine art at the University of Bath, successfully completing an Art degree 2006, since when she has been working as a professional artist. She has recently exhibited in a group exhibition at Bath, a solo exhibition in Oxford and the Faringdon Art Society's annual exhibition. Helen also participates annually in Oxford Artweeks. Helen works predominantly in inks, with variations on mono-printing and is constantly fascinated by the play of light and dark on faces and figures, as is demonstrated by this striking selection of portrayals of unknown faces, many of which engage with the viewer through direct eye contact. She says that she is also very prone to enthusiasms, the current one being lino cuts! She also works as an illustrator for the Charity 'Wells for India' on a voluntary basis and in 2009 visited projects in Rajasthan where she was able to collect photographs and sketches to work from on her return.
