About the Society
Founded in 1964 for all those interested in art in Faringdon and The Vale, Faringdon Art Society (FAS) is run on a 'not for profit' basis and currently has over one hundred members.
The society welcomes anyone with an interest in shape, colour, form, movement, texture and the expression of it in paint, ink, pencil, stone, clay, pottery, wood etc, whether they are a leisure artist, a professional, or just someone that enjoys seeing how artists work.
Our membership comprises full members that pay an annual subscription of £10 which entitles them to exhibit work at our annual exhibition held in the Autumn each year and to have a page in our website gallery. Associate members pay an annual subscription of £7 but are not eligible to exhibit at the annual show. All members can attend the monthly talks and demonstrations, organized by Stanford in the Vale & Wantage Art Groups, with whom FAS is closely affiliated, and both members & non-members alike can join the coach trips to national galleries and art events throughout the country several times a year, members benefit from a discounted price. We hold workshops regularly throughout the year covering different mediums and styles. These are open to anyone but full members will be given priority and pay a discounted price.
As the membership includes many working artists, FAS also runs a weekly and informal drop in art morning, which is open to members and non-members alike. This has proved to be a good introduction to art and the society, as you do not need to be a member to attend and can just 'give it a go
